Bump (promoted event listings) FAQs

How do Bumps work?

What is CPC? How does the bidding system work?

  • CPC stands for ‘Cost Per Click’. This means that you pay per click, and not per impression.
  • This feeds into a bidding system; the higher the CPC, the higher display priority an ad has at any given moment. For example, if one ad is running at £0.50 CPC and another is running at £0.70 CPC then it is more likely that the ad with the higher amount will be displayed first.

How do we calculate conversions / return on ad spend (ROAS)?

A conversion is counted when a user clicks on a promoted event  with the "promoted" tag in the RA Guide and then purchases the ticket, either at the time of the click or later.

In all other cases, a conversion is not counted. For instance, if a user sees the ad but doesn't click, then later clicks on the event (when it no longer displays the "promoted" tag) and buys the ticket, it won't be considered a conversion.

Conversion value will be calculated based on the total value of the order. ROAS / return on ad spend equals Conversion value divided by total ad spend.

How can RA distinguish between organic users who clicked on the event while the Bump ad was inactive and the users who clicked on the event while the Bump ad was on?

A click is counted when a user clicks on a promoted listing with the "promoted" tag in the RA Guide only. You will be charged for unique user clicks only. This means if one user clicks on the ad multiple times, you will be charged for one click only.

Why can’t I see / haven’t seen my Bump?

Although you might not have seen your Bump this doesn't mean that other users haven’t. There are three main reasons that you might not see your Bump on your device:

  1. The feature is only available in the app (RA Guide), iOS version. You won't see Bumps on Web or Android apps.
  2. There can be multiple campaigns running at the same time, so if you see another ad, it could be that your ad is served to a different pool of users at this point in time.
  3. We operate on a bidding model. It means if someone purchased an ad at a higher CPC than yours, their ad will have higher display priority.

Managing Bumps

I have submitted some wrong information, what can I do?

You can update both your CPC and total ad spend from the event’s RA Bumps page within RA Pro. If you have any further queries, please email [email protected].

How can I monitor the campaign or increase my budget?

You can monitor your campaign from the event's RA Bumps page within RA Pro.

You can update both your CPC and total ad spend from the event’s RA Bumps page within RA Pro. Any updates to your CPC will be reflected in any new clicks going forward. If you have any further queries, please email [email protected].

How can I see when the Bump is active? Can I pause a bump and start again at a later date?

Your campaign will start from the moment you press ‘start campaign’. The ad will be displayed in  the iOS version of RA Guide only. Your ad will be delivered to a specific pool of users and, given the number of users  accessing the app, you may not see your ad every time you open the RA Guide app. You can keep up to date with the number of users clicking your ad via the live RA Bumps dashboard within RA Pro.

Is it possible to see more data, like conversions by purchase date, average order value, etc?

You can keep up to date with the following statistics via the live RA Bumps dashboard within RA Pro:

  • Total clicks
  • Total spend
  • Number of conversions
  • Conversion value
  • ROAS

When is the best time to start the Bump campaign?

People typically browse the RA Guide a week before they want to go out, meaning this is the period when your bump is most likely to be seen. On the flipside, if your Bump start date is close to your event date you will be competing with more Bumps than usual, and if you have lower CPC, your ad might be displayed less compared to the ads with higher CPC.

Running a Bump further in advance of an event might still create clicks and conversions but it is less likely that users will be  browsing that far in advance so the budget will be spent  slower.

For key calendar events like Halloween and New Years Eve, we suggest starting campaigns as early as possible - as there is a higher number of ads running at the same time, therefore it might be more difficult to achieve the target if the bump campaign timespan is too low.

Finishing and paying for Bumps

Why did the bump finish earlier than the event date?

If your ad spends the entire campaign budget before the event date then it will finish earlier. If you want to reactivate the ad, please visit your event’s RA Bump page within RA Pro and increase the ad spend.

“My budget is $500, why did it only fulfil $300 at the end of the campaign?”

If your ad is unable to spend  the entire  campaign budget before the event date then it will finish under budget, as only a portion of the clicks would have been delivered. This can happen due to several reasons: your CPC was below other campaigns running on the same date, the traffic was lower than usual, your event details didn’t incentivise users to click. Follow the following steps to help your party look the best on our event listings event ranking 101.

I didn’t see my Bump or get any conversions, do I still have to pay?

Bumps are charged on a CPC (cost per click) basis. If you didn’t see your Bump but your campaign delivered clicks then you are going to be charged for the clicks delivered. If the ad failed to get any clicks, this means we didn’t spend any of your budget, so you will not be invoiced.

My event was cancelled, can I get a refund?

Please get in touch with [email protected] and your Partnership Manager (if you have one allocated to your account), and your case can be looked into on an individual basis.

How will I get charged for the campaign?

As of 8/1/2024 we have introduced new billing terms:

  • The cost of the bump campaign(s) will be deducted from the ticket revenue from the promoted event. This will happen before the funds are transferred to you post event. The deduction will not exceed the set budget for the campaign (+VAT where applicable).
  • In the case where the cost of the bump campaigns(s) exceed the event's ticket revenue or where no tickets were sold, an invoice with 30-day payment terms will be sent after the promoted event. The invoice will not exceed the set budget for the campaign (+VAT where applicable).
